Im dying for some kind of sugary snack right about now. Cake! I was gonna go up the road and buy a pack of 6 a second ago. I guess the scales changed my mind.
Summer Salads: What About the Mayo?

Just wanted to pass along one of my favorite RECIPE DOCTOR tips for those creamy and popular mayo-drenched salads that seem to typify summer eatin'. Here's the tip: Instead of adding mayonnaise to salad recipes (as called for), use a combination of light mayonnaise and fat free sour cream. This works really well - I've doing it for years. I use the fat free sour cream that comes in the container that looks like a cowhide (Naturally Yours is the brand I believe). It has a subtle flavor so it extends the flavor of the light mayonnaise nicely. You can use 1/3-cup light mayo and 2/3 cup fat free sour cream to replace a cup of regular mayonnaise.

Summer Veg Out Part III: EASY & EATEN

Okay, so we've talked about finding vegetables and fruits locally and on the cheap . Now that your fridge is full of them, how do you get the kids to actually eat them all summer? I think one of the keys is to make fruits and vegetables the number one most visible and easy-to-reach food items in the house . Don't leave them tucked away in the crisper drawer, unwashed in plastic bags. If they're on the counter when the kids run by, lookin' cool, crisp, and ready-to-go, kids are more likely to grab and eat them. Of course, it also helps to ditch the junk food or at least keep it out-of-sight, and perhaps rule out other foods for between-meal snacking.

Peanut Butter Recall

A few days ago I received a press release from the FDA warning consumers not to eat certain jars of peanut butter (Peter Pan and Great Value brands with the product code on lid of the jar beginning with "2111.") and as I kept reading down the release I came to the headline "Product May be Contaminated With Salmonella." I took a double take because historically it was aflatoxin mold that I remember potentially being in peanut butter (that's why I refrigerate my peanut butter) not the notorious salmonella linked to raw meat, raw eggs and contaminated produce.
