Figure-friendly peanut butter snacks

Filed under: Snacks , Nuts/seeds , Lists , Light Food Hungry Girl has a great roundup of some peanut buttery snacks that will still allow you to slip into your swimsuit before heading out to the beach this summer. Peanuts are an excellent source of protein and also contain a good amount of fiber. Unfortunately, peanuts are also quite high in fat and, as a result, high in calories. The serving size for peanut butter is only 2 tablespoons, and it has (approximately) 180 calories and 16 grams of fat. While it is healthy, it can also be hazardous to your diet, especially if you have been known to sneak an extra spoonful or two from the jar. Hungry Girl's picks all have a good peanut butter flavor and nowhere near the fat and calories of the peanut butter alone, so they're a great way to have a snack and get some peanut butter flavored goodness.

Fruit snacks help kids do better in school

Filed under: Snacks , Culinary Kids , Fruit , Newspapers , America , Light Food Some sort of aptitude testing is done in just about every school in the country, mandated by the city or state government, to check on the progress of the educational system. This testing time can be stressful for students because, though they are not actually "graded" on their performance, they still have to sit through many long days of math and reading comprehension tests. Having to concentrate for such an extended period can be very challenging for students, particularly young ones. Schools try to perk them up by offering snacks, but a Washington State school found something very interesting this year when they decided to give the kids fruits , instead of muffins or granola bars. They found that the students were quieter, less stressed and more focused.

Fireworks' red and blue popcorn

Filed under: Snacks , Food Porn , Grains , Pop Food , Microwaving , Raves & Reviews A lot of that popcorn   I have eaten in my life has come from microwave bags, and the rest has come from popping corn the old fashioned way: on the stove. To my knowledge, most of the popcorn has been of the hard, yellow-kernel variety. I now think that I was missing out.

Best foods for busy women

Filed under: Lunch , Breakfast , Dinner , Snacks , Dessert , Magazines , Lists Health magazine put together their list of what they considered to be the " best foods for busy women ." What they clearly meant to say was the "best pre-packaged meals/snacks for busy women". There isn't anything necessarily wrong with this sort of meal, but I would hardly go so far as to say it is the "best," since my definition of "best" does not generally include a lot of shelf-stable pre-packaged meals. Nevertheless, here are their picks:

Guinness and Pringles in record mashup

Filed under: Snacks , Food Oddities , On the Blogs , New Products , America Here at Slashfood we love to discover outsized food items that garner Guinness records and, of course, we love to snack. So I was glad to learn that  Pringles now has a way for snackers to keep up with the latest records. In a cross-promotion with the 2006 edition of Guinness World Records Pringles has come up with salty snacks featuring questions such as "The lightest 'normal' or non-atrophied brain on record weighed how much?" (answer: 1 lb. 8 oz.).  Lest I forget, these brain teasers are printed on the chips in blue dye. Apparently placing text on salty snacks is old news for Pringles they've been doing it for two years . Either I haven't been down the snack food aisle in a while, or I took commercial food with messages and/or logos off my radar after eating my first, and last, McGriddle . There's even an area on the Pringles  web site asking for suggested messages. I'd happily pop until I couldn't stop if they released a pack with chips reading "Impeach Bush." Food Porn: Sweet sushi

Filed under: Snacks , Food Porn , Chocolate , Candy , On the Blogs McAuliflower, who blogs at Brownie Points , is very creative and when she gets her mind set on one idea, she doesn't give up no matter how long it takes. In her post about sweet sushi , she said that it was an idea she had been wanting to tackle for some time. As you can tell by the collage above, she did a fantastic job. Her sweet sushi looks unbelievably realistic, with rice krispy treat and white chocolate rice, dark chocolate nori wrappers and marshmallow fish. Multiple batches of homemade marshmallows took a bit of effort, as did molding the fish shapes, but these are easily the most incredible (and fun) sushi creations I've ever seen.
