Clack egg cracker

Filed under: Food Gadgets , Eggs Ever since I caught one of the Iron Chefs using a gadget like this on TV, I wanted one. The Clack Egg Cracker is a device that allows you to crack off one end of an egg-shell in a perfect circle. It gets its name from the loud "clack" it makes as it works. The Egg Song

Filed under: Food Oddities , On the Blogs , Eggs I am sorry Food Pornographer, but this reminds me of the worse type of cutesy Japanese cartoons crossed with the most annoying type of Euro-trash 'Ibiza' hit. I know that there's definitely some overlap between the food bloggers and the craft/knit/crochet bloggers, and I'm sure some of you fall into both categories. Personally, when I see a knitting needle I'd rather put some shrimp on it, but nevermind that. There are some pretty creative and bizarre projects out there. My favorite so far is, without a doubt, the Flying Spaghetti Monster Hat. Continue reading to see a picture of it, as well as a few others.

What is meringue powder?

Filed under: Did you know? , Eggs Yesterday, I talked about the Cook's Illustrated review of egg white substitutes , which concluded that you are best off working with real, fresh egg whites. The pre-packed, pasteurized egg white substitutes didn't hold up when whipped as well as the real thing. There is one more type of egg white substitute that is known for its ability to whip up, though: meringue powder.
