Can You Detox Safely?

sxc.hu: MeiTeng I'm pretty much against "detoxing," but I think the word itself may be evolving to take on a new meaning. The detox concept has certainly been around for a while, and (unfortunately) it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. According to the market research firm Mintel, in the last year there was a 108 percent increase in foods...

More progress!

AaminahRaks added an entry about lose weight : So back last March when I weighed myself I was 191 lbs, I just weighed myself this morning and I am at 165 lbs!! Im really excited because I was stuck at 170 for quite a while. My size 11 pants fit really good (kind of loose around the waist now) and I can wear fitted shirts without feeling self conscious. I feel like I have more energy and it feels really good to have people tell me that they’ve noticed how much weight I’ve lost and they want to know what I’ve been doing. =)

Chocolate Cupcakes with Raspberry Buttercream - Feast Your Eyes

Filed under: Feast Your Eyes Photo: whitneyinchicago, Flickr Beyond trends, a cupcake is much more than a mini version of grander, more showy cousins -- we're talking to you, Lady Baltimore cake. It's sweet and self-contained and invites you to experiment with what sits on a cloud of buttercream or cream cheese frosting -- a raspberry, a curl of chocolate, a sculpture in marzipan. Cupcakes ask only that you use your imagination. Meet Highland Park 1968: The $3,999 Whisky You'll Likely Never Buy

Filed under: Drinks , Spirits Photo: Highland Park Superior Scotch is always an indulgence, a spirit to sip and savor -- if only due to the golden elixir's premium price. Still, you could bathe in a bathtub full of 12-year-old Glenfiddich for what you'd pay for the latest limited-edition release from Scotland's Highland Park . The Scottish distillery has always produced impeccable spirits, such as its mouthwatering 18-year-old release, but you best corral your loose change if you want one of the approximately 1,550 bottles of 1968 that will be unveiled this spring. That's because the complexly rich Highland Park 1968 -- made from a blend of 40-year-old whiskies -- clocks in at a cool $3,999, or about the cost of a nice used car. We know, we know: We can sense your growing outrage. In the dark heart of a recession, how dare Highland Park release such a pricey spirit! Truth is, vintage Scotch has always demanded a price tag featuring lots and lots of zeros. For example, a rare bottle of 50-year-old Macallan sold for more than $17,000 last year. Decades of aging in wooden casks don't come cheap. And it's a rare opportunity to sip a spirit as old as you are. But here comes the crucial question: Is it worth it? Yup. If you're buying. What's the most you'd pay for booze? Tell us in the comments.

Coolhaus - Ask a Shopkeeper

Filed under: Trends , Interviews , Features Photo: Coolhaus Natasha Case has worked in some of L.A.'s most prestigious architecture and design offices. She's also been a Walt Disney Imagineer. Fortunately for SoCal foodies, Natasha has traded in her drafting boards and graphing paper for baking sheets and ice-cream makers. She and her business partner, Freya Estreller, are the two "Principal Farchitects" for Coolhaus -- a pimped-out, find-us-on- Twitter truck that offers a variety of architecturally-inspired ice-cream sandwiches. Their menu is full of treats with names that are puns on terms from the world of design -- you can order the Frank Behry, strawberry ice cream pressed between two sugar cookies, for example. We caught up with Natasha to get the lowdown on Coolhaus and the future of Farchitecture. More from Natasha Case, Principal Farchitect of Coolhaus , after the jump. Musher Plans to Munch on Hot Tamales

Filed under: Restaurants Photo: lucianvenutian, Flickr More than five dozen Mississippi hot tamales have been secreted away in the snows of northwest Alaska. The tamales from Solly's, a Vicksburg institution, were recently shipped to musher Mike Suprenant , who plans to participate in next week's 1,150-mile Iditarod race. Since it's impossible for a team of 16 huskies to efficiently drag the 2,000 pounds of food needed to keep them and their driver fed, organizers require racers to stow their supplies at food drops, reachable only by helicopters and sleds. Dogs typically feast on a fine-tuned chow of moose steak, lamb trimmings, chicken skin and seal oil, but mushers are free to eat whatever they choose. Jewel McCain, owner of Solly's, surmises her tamales' cayenne-driven spices and high fat content will help keep Suprenant warm. Continue reading Musher Plans to Munch on Hot Tamales
