Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has an enormous task ahead of him. The British cooking icon descended on the unhealthiest city in America, Huntington, W. Filed under: Feast Your Eyes Photo: tlboyd05, Flickr The subject is madeleines, so let's get the inevitable Marcel Proust mention out of the way. While it's fascinating that the taste of these delicate little cakes jogged the memories of the melancholy Frenchman in Remembrance of Things Past, what's more intriguing to me about Proust is that he wrote in bed to shut out the world. I love fat, light and spongy madeleines, but this was a more useful writer's lesson. There's even a reconstruction of Proust's cork-lined bedroom at Paris's Musée Carnavalet. But back to tea cakes. Blogger Tracey's Culinary Adventures turned to chef Marcus Samuelsson and his latest cookbook, New American Food , for this recipe for the buttery shell-shaped French cakes, made lively with lemon juice and zest. They're perfect to include on a tray when you're lying in bed in the afternoon with a pot of tea and a notebook that you may or may not write in. Filed under: Television/Film Photo: ABC And out come the tears! Fun as it's been to see Jamie Oliver "get into a scrap" with school officials, radio hosts, family pets and just about any living thing he encounters in his quest to change the eating habits of one not-so-small town, this week, he found a demographic a little more his speed -- and his show was all the better for it. Yes, in a sea of apathetic Americans, Jamie has found unlikely allies in perhaps our most disaffected age group: teens! There was something funny -- and maybe more than a little satisfying -- about watching him march around a high school cafeteria in a bomber jacket and trucker cap, squawking, "I need ambassadors of change to carry on my mantra!" Filed under: Chefs , Interviews Courtesy Elizabeth Karmel What food do you eat that would give you a bad rep if other chefs knew about it? EK: I own all my food! But my dirty little secret is I LOVE Chic-fil-A with extra pickles! It's the first thing I eat when I go home to North Carolina. Which celebrity would you love to cook for and why? EK: Lyle Lovett--because I listen to his music when I cook and he looks like he could enjoy a good meal and a tumbler of tequila with me! What chef would you like to see naked? EK: Really?!!!? What do you think of vegetarians? EK: That they are only eating half of their food. What's going on in the food world these days that's pissing you off? EK: I am grossed out by the chemical content in a lot of our food supply and the fact that fast food costs less to buy than fruits, veggies etc. So people are on a hamster wheel of eating cheap processed food. We should all eat as close to the source as possible--whole foods, real food. But sadly, it has a big price tag and is not available to everyone. Elizabeth Karmel is executive chef of Hill Country Barbecue , the best barbecue in NYC as voted by New York Magzine and Time Out NY. The restaurant was named by the Wall Street Journal as one of the top barbecue joints in America.
Filed under: News Getty Images Back in the day, a trip to the ballpark meant hot dogs, peanuts, and beer (not to mention affordable tickets). Today, that classic dog is still on the menu, but it's been joined by an array of other foodstuffs -- some of which aren't what comes to mind when you think of a day at the stadium. According to Nation's Restaurant News , three food-service companies that could be called the major leaguers of snack fare -- Aramark , Delaware North , and Centerplate -- are stepping up to the proverbial plate with newly enhanced menus.
