A study published on bmj.com reports that an increased risk of obesity later in life is associated with poor physical control and coordination during childhood. These findings, suggested by Walter Osika and Scott Montgomery (Orebro University Hospital, Orebro, Sweden), are yet another piece of evidence that correlates type 2 diabetes in adults, obesity, and poor cognitive function in childhood.
People who use monosodium glutamate, or MSG, as a flavor enhancer in their food are more likely than people who don't use it to be overweight or obese even though they have the same amount of physical activity and total calorie intake, according to a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health study published this month in the journal Obesity.
With the 2008 Beijing Olympics in full swing and international athletes sampling Chinese competition, culture and food--one thing is NOT on the menu, dog. The BBC reports that China has instituted a ban on serving dog meat at its 112 official Olympic restaurants. The move is one of several steps China has taken not offend foreign visitors; smiling and not...
While browsing through the magazine section of a local bookstore, I picked up a copy of Adbusters Magazine. If you aren't familiar with Adbusters, it is a counter-culture periodical - a rebellious magazine that boldly speaks out against many of the things that are polluting our world - not the least of which is all of the other magazines that...
Amie_Manget added an entry about Lose weight : I am so tired of being tired, overweight, unfit and unhappy and also of constantly letting myself down! I’ve recently had a diabetes scare which has made me realise that my current situation can’t go on. I’ve always been a “big” girl to some extent and accept that I will never be a truly “skinny minny” as I was born curvy but I turn 35 (cripes!) at the end of the year and am determined to be wearing a dress that i chose out of choice and not cause nothing else fitted at my party! I also have a family wedding in 69 days time so need to have made some inroads by then – wish me luck! :)

Anyone else have an Olympics "hangover"? As I woke up today, tired and with a headache, it occurred to me that I've got an Olympics "hangover." The staying up late watching the Olympics (into the wee hours of the morning) and then waking up to work has caught up with me. I feel like I need to power through this with some extra hydration (making some green tea as we speak) and maybe a power nap in a few hours. These Olympics do seem to be testing my endurance. Is it me or do they seem to air the events we most want to watch after midnight? Those of us without TIVO, or a way to record and watch later, are totally at a (spectator) training disadvantage.

I am going away this weekend to Atlanta to visit my boyfriend’s parents and I know its going to be pasta and eating out. I am not allowing myself to eat french fries. No more things soaked in oil, it grosses me out.

CJButler01 added an entry about lose weight : I can finally see results. I can finally fit almost all of my jeans comfortbly but some of them have gotten to comfortable. I can wear some of my shirts and dresses without being worried about my muffin top. I also worked out this morning for 100 minutes on the treadmill. I usually get lazy and do it in the afternoon or night but now I can go outside and hang out with my friends. I only hope that I won’t get tempted into eating junk food because there is a cheap candy store right next door to her. Wish me luck!
