Wow

Star_and_Moon_Koneko added an entry about lose weight : It’s been a month and I finally had gone out and bought an exercise ball at work in the beginning of July when I finally came home from vacation. I also got a journal to monitor what I ate and when I ate. I weighed myself that sunday and weighed in at 148. This far I am now down to 143/ 142. The goal is still 110, the date I hope to get down to that is around my birthday, which is December 10th. I have attempted to exercise in cardio type styles atleast 3 times a week, but the most I get out of a week is walking to my classes as well as the running/walking I have a work for about 4 or more hours a night.

Losing Weight Soon After Type 2 Diabetes Diagnosis Doubles Positive Outcomes

People who lose weight soon after a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes have better control of their blood pressure and blood sugar, and are more likely to maintain that control even if they regain their weight, according to a Kaiser Permanente study published online in Diabetes Care, the American Diabetes Association journal. This is the first clinical study to show that benefits remain even if patients regain their weight.

Scientists Measure Connection Between The Built Environment And Obesity In Baby Boomers

Does your neighborhood have a lot of fast food outlets, few sidewalks, and no parks? According to a research study conducted in Portland, Oregon by scientists at Oregon Research Institute (ORI), neighborhoods with lower mixed-land use and higher densities of fast-food outlets were more likely to have residents who were overweight/obese.

I lost 15lbs in my first month

joshd1973 added an entry about lose weight : It will be 4 weeks tomorrow since I joined the gym and I am 0.7lbs short of losing 15lbs in my first month. I started the month on 100 kilos and set myself the target fo reaching 75 kilos by the end of the year. As of this morning I weigh 93.5kilos. My short term targets are to complete a 10K run on 31st August in 50 minutes and graduate to a 10 mile run at the end of October (both for Prostate Cancer). I have run before but gained 15 kilos in the last year largely due to getting married and moving from an office to working from home!

Concussion? Your brain needs longer time-out

Obesity Not Always Linked To Higher Cardiovascular Risk

Two studies, one from Germany and another from the US published this week, suggest that obese people do not always carry an increased risk of heart disease, while some individuals of normal weight do. The clue appeared to lie in how body fat was distributed, for example fat in the abdomen, as indicated by a larger waist circumference, was a consistent risk factor in both studies.

Taste Test Tuesday: Fat Free Half and Half

I've caught some grief over the last couple of years for using fat free half and half in some of my recipes. I use it in some of my lightened recipes because it has more of a rich look and texture than lowfat milk and that difference comes in handy in certain recipes (like light Alfredo sauce and cream soups). So what are the naysayers unhappy about? Yes, while corn syrup solids are added, it is the third ingredient added (after nonfat milk and whole milk). And yes, sugar is added...but it's the fifth ingredient, after artificial color - which means there is less sugar added than artificial color.

I Think I'm In Love...

...with these lunch boxes from Lunchsense . A reader pointed them out to me just last week -- I had never heard of them before. I love the different sizes to choose from (small, medium, and large), and the various containers. Not to put down Laptop Lunch Systems , but some of us with Laptops have mused amongst ourselves that it really would be nice to have lids sometimes. These lids look great: clear snap-top lids on all the food containers, and an easy screw-on lid for the 1 oz. dressing container and the liquid bottle.
