Fat Cell Hormone Linked To Kidney Disease

Reduced levels of a hormone produced by fat cells and linked to the development of insulin resistance may also be related to a higher risk of kidney disease, according to a study led by researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Thomas Jefferson University. Their study, to be published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation on April 22, could point the way to drug therapies that can protect renal and cardiac function in patients with obesity.

How Exercise Changes Structure And Function Of Heart Shown By Mass. General Study

For the first time researchers are beginning to understand exactly how various forms of exercise impact the heart. Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) investigators, in collaboration with the Harvard University Health Services, have found that 90 days of vigorous athletic training produces significant changes in cardiac structure and function and that the type of change varies with the type of exercise performed. Their study appears in the April Journal of Applied Physiology.

Moderately To Severely Obese Elderly Run Significant Risk Of Disability And Dependence On Long-Term Care Services, Finds Study P

Among the growing number of obese older adults, those who are moderately and severely obese, but not those who are mildly obese, run a significantly increased risk of having disabilities serious enough to need long-term care, according to a study that will be presented here, at the American Geriatrics Society's Annual Scientific Meeting, on May 1. The meeting is the premier conference on aging research.

hananathebanana added an entry about lose weight : i binged a lot this evening. if i just sit on my comp doing nothing i don’t binge at all i don’t even think about eating but if i do school work i find it so boring, i eat! i have to be really good tomorrow as on Friday i have been invited to go to Brighton with friends and we usually eat at Pizza Hut there and go to Shakeaway (milkshake café) and that’s the day before weigh-day!

I lost 25 pounds

kbedell added an entry about lose weight : I lost it mainly by eating less. I also started running which I think helped. I was on what I call the ‘financial diet’—I bought healthy food and didn’t buy more until I ate it. It worked for me. Seriously, the only time I’ve ever lost weight was when I simply ate less—I’d wait until I was hungry before I ate more.

I'm so fed up!

Admittedly I hvn’t really been working towards this goal seriously until the last 2 weeks, & I know it doesn’t happen overnight…. I swear I feel like I’ve been trying to diet for years – I’m never happy about my weight but I never manage to lose any either! I remember once about 5 yrs ago being 120lbs for about a week but apart from that I’ve always been around 140.

satisfy.my.soul added an entry about lose weight : -breakfast: fresh mango, coffee -lunch: organic tom guk kai and i added chicken, asparagus, and string beans with some rice (don’t know if it was the best but it was filling and haven’t snacked for 5 hrs so that’s good) -lots of water -just snacked, haha: a strawberry, some blueberries, and some pineapple yesterday my weight was at 125…hmm, my body’s having a hard time gettin past that number (124.5 is the lowest so far). but to be honest i’ve been eating like it’s my job! :D hopefully i can stop that. don’t know what’s triggered it…i usually don’t deprive myself to avoid eating a lot of bad things.

Some kid was like “im almost obese. i weigh 188 and have to be 200 to be obese. i can’t wait!” i just don’t get how a 14 year old or anyone can want to be obese. =/ for some reason this really bugs me…
